A Magical Night of Laughter and Enchantment at Cinderella

Published:

We were invited along to attend the press night of Cinderella in Panto at the Towngate Theatre in Basildon. Written by the talented Simon Fielding and featuring Sophie Ladds as the Wicked Step Mother, it proved to be an enchanting experience for audiences of all ages. The classic fairy tale was given a fresh and humorous twist, making it a standout production that left everyone in stitches.

The script was a perfect blend of tradition and modern humor, ensuring that both young and old could enjoy the show. The traditional elements of the Cinderella story remained while injecting it with witty dialogue and hilarious antics that had the audience laughing throughout the performance.

Sophie Ladds delivered a standout performance as the Wicked Step Mother, bringing just the right mix of villainy and comedic flair to the character. Her stage presence and timing made her captivating and memorable and featured one of my personal favourite scenes with a member of the audience that had me crying with laughter.

The supporting cast, including the lovable Buttons and the Ugly Sisters, complemented each other perfectly. The chemistry among the cast was brilliant!! A special mention goes to the charismatic Buttons, whose infectious energy and charm resonated with the audience, making him an instant favourite.

The set design and costumes were magical, including the attention to detail and vibrant colours which enhanced the immersive experience for the audience.

One of the highlights of the evening was the interactive nature of the performance, as the cast skillfully engaged with the audience, from sing-along songs to cheeky banter. On top of this, a few extra surprises which we didn't expect, completely made the show for us.

The show genuinely exceeded my expectations and the production is a must-see for anyone looking to experience the magic of Cinderella in a fresh and entertaining way. The children were captivated and the adults loved it too!! A definite 5 stars from us!!
