When I was a girl I desperately wanted a Blue Peter badge. I have recently discovered that it’s not that difficult to get one and the benefits are fantastic!
Holders of any Blue Peter Badge can get free access to over 200 venues around the UK; everywhere from Blackpool Pleasure Beach to London Zoo.
There are also some venues in Essex that are on the prestigious list such as:
- Barleylands Farm Park & Village
- Colchester Castle
- RHS Hyde Hall
And some that are great for a day trip as not too far away:
- Bekonskot Model Village
- Paradise Wildlife Park
- London Transport Museum
- Kew Gardens
- The Bluebell Railway
- The London Bridge Experience & Tombs
- The Tower of London
- Shakespear's Globe Experience
- ZSL London Zoo
You can see the full list here.
So how do your children go about getting one I hear you cry? Well, to begin with they need to be between the ages of 6 and 15. Then they need to decide which badge they are applying for. There are several!
A blue badge, diamond, green, silver, orange, purple, sport and lastly gold. Each badge has specific criteria so make sure you do your research!
Once they've decided on the badge they will apply for, they then need to decide why they are a worthy recipient!
The application details are here.
This could be a great activity for your kids to complete during the summer holidays – it will take some time to research and to plan their application so should keep them busy for a day or two. Badges can take up to 10 weeks to arrive, IF you are approved for one, so just in time for the October Half Term holiday or maybe the Christmas holidays!
