Hitchin Choices is a youth club for teenagers with Down Syndrome and other special needs; teenagers that are not always catered for in other activity groups. The club aims to equip these young people with the social and other skills they need to give them more choices in their future.
There was a previous club at the same venue and time, but this folded in July as the funding ran out. The youngsters were all devastated - 'nothing to do' is often exacerbated by special needs parameters.
The only way to continue was setting up a new charity and for the parents to raise funds for this much needed club. These fundraising campaigns have included sponsored walks, cake sales, a virtual horse racing night and the ongoing Christmas Postbox topper campaign.
Hitchin residents will have noticed the Christmas Post Box Topper Campaign. This was all completed in just under 7 weeks with the help of 4 talented ladies who created 7 Toppers. It has been very well received from the people of Hitchin - apart from the one vandalised in Walsworth Road but this is being repaired and will return shortly - and has so far raised an amazing £2,581.
