Did you know that Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service offers an online Home Fire Safety Check for free?
Last weekend we had an in-home fire safety check from Hitchin Fire Station and I can't recommend it enough! We discovered it would be safer to have an additional smoke alarm downstairs based on the format of our house, plus they also moved our existing upstairs smoke alarm to a better position. I also got to ask lots of questions that had been niggling me about what to do in certain situations and they were great with the kids- really getting my 5 year old involved in talking about what a smoke alarm is, what to do if it went off and how to call 999. The kids even got to go out and see the fire engine- who wouldn't be excited about a (non emergency!) visit from a real fire engine to their street?!
It only takes 15 minutes to get a personalised fire safety plan online. The check may also make recommend Herts Fire and Rescue visit your home to put safety measurements in place to ensure your home is safer from fires.
