tried & tested

When there are so many places to choose from it's hard to know where to visit! In good or bad weather, with very young children or older teens, activity venues or quiet walks, every venue will offer something different with a variety of facilites available. We will add our thoughts on places that we have Tried & Tested so that you are well-informed before you make your decision to leave the house!

Bouncing fun at Hatfield Inflatable Zone

Published:

It’s been a long time since I’ve had the pleasure of discovering a new venue to take excited, energetic children! Hatfield Leisure Centre kindly invited Mum’s guide to Harpenden to experience their (relatively new) Inflatable Zone and we were really keen to learn the Rules of Bounce! As the youngest of the MGTH pack, Leo got to have all the fun with his friend, Alex.

A warm welcome from the concierge, Natasha, and then Ruler of Bounce, Matthew, immediately gave the boys (aged 9 and 10) a challenge to complete: the Wall. With the safety briefing complete the boys were off! Challenge accepted. Although, currently, 20 minutes in, it’s still Mission Incomplete. It does actually look fairly impossible given the amount of effort that is going into running up it by all the children and adults in the play zone! This is one for those with true grit and determination…

The enormous colourful inflatable park that is the length of 5 badminton courts is 10 meters longer than the Leaning Tower of Pisa on its side!! It was teeming with extremely happy, joyfully squealing children (and adults) when we arrived. I honestly couldn’t tell you who was having the most fun. Adults and children racing each other across the bounce zone, challenging each other to stay on the longest on the wobble bobbles, testing each other’s climbing skills on the Impossible Ladders to be first to ring the bell and sharing the fun of the slides.

This hidden weekend gem is the perfect antidote to a full week of school and work. This is where you can bounce your worries into the ceiling and remember how it feels to be a child.

The children here at our visit are approximately 2 years old to 15 years old to well over 60 years old (possibly older as I’ve never been great with ages!). It takes about four hours for the team to put the inflatables up on a Friday evening. It is spotlessly clean and there are plenty of staff on hand keeping everyone happy.

Check out our reel on Instagram to get an idea of what it's like. It has quite loud fans but they sound like loud white noise. The leisure centre currently don’t run specific SEND sessions but it’s something they’re considering for the future. They do however, do birthday parties!

Although they are usually only offering the inflatables on Saturdays and Sundays they are open for February HALF TERM  on the following dates:

  • Monday 17th Feb 9am-1pm last slot at 12noon
  • Thursday 20th Feb 11am-7pm last slot at 6pm
  • Friday 21st Feb 11am-8pm last slot at 7pm
