Big Wild Sleepout at RSPB Rye Meads
RSPB Rye Meads
Fri 1st August 2025
5pm - 9am
Join us for a night camping under the stars and connect with nature as the nocturnal wildlife awakens on the reserve.
The Big Wild Sleep Out is a unique opportunity for families to spend a night out in the wild!
Arriving late in the afternoon there will be time to pitch your tent before heading out for pond dipping. After dinner (bring your own or join us for a fish and chip run!) we'll have a walk around the reserve with bat detectors as the sun sets and learn all about the nocturnal wildlife of Rye Meads. Weather permitting we will stargaze before falling asleep to the sounds of night-time nature. After breakfast there may be time for a bird ringing demonstration or an early morning walk to our Kingfisher Viewing Hub. Finally we will check the moth trap to see what has been caught overnight before waving farewell!
Set up is from 5pm on Friday with tents being packed away by 9am on Saturday morning.
[Note: campers will need to bring their own tent and camping equipment, torches, cutlery and chairs.]
[Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements. Fish and chips not included in event price]
Rye Meads is a closed reserve overnight, so our Big Wild Sleepout really is a unique opportunity to spend time here when nobody else is around.
