Comic Zine Workshop (Age 8+)
Southern Maltings
Thu 10th April 2025
14.00
Join us with new Tutor Jess Hyde to draw and create your own original Comic Zine.
In this workshop our tutor Jess will demonstrate how to make a simple folded zine, which we will then use to create a short comic on any topic of the child's choice (maybe Easter themed!). The kids can do this however they like, but they will be strongly encouraged to include comic elements such as speech bubbles, thought bubbles and onomatopoeia. She will bring examples!
The finished result should be a personal mini comic with a beginning and end, coloured in and taken home to treasure forever!
Jessica is a painter as well as an independent comic book writer and illustrator, who teaches a regular Comic Book class at Courtyard Arts and hopes to bring her enthusiasm in this genre to run a regular class at Southern Maltings too. Come and try her workshop to see if you might like a future class.
Our new tutor Jessica, will engage the children in various activities to build their artistic skills and confidence in their ability to draw and create from their imagination. Children will try out a range of techniques will all materials provided. To achieve their own range of characters that can be developed further in to their own comic strip.
This workshop is designed for children aged 8+ and all materials will be provided.
Just bring your creativity and enthusiasm, and we'll take care of the rest!
This is a drop off workshop with our DBS certified tutor with a maximum of 12 students.
The session of Thursday 10th April at 2pm lasts for 2 hours and is costed at £13.
The workshop will take place in our downstairs function space with access from the main door on Kibes Lane Car Park.
We are currently undergoing an exciting redevelopment of our Café area at the East End of the building. We ask that families arrive and enter the building via our front door on Kibes Lane Car Park and not the East End of the building. Please note this is not a step free access and has a short run of 5 steps.
