The park on Walsworth Common is dear to my heart as it felt like our second home in lockdown. When we were finally allowed to meet in groups of 6, my friend and I would meet there with the kids to let them run off some steam and have some much-needed adult chat. A lot of the time we were absolutely freezing, but they loved it there, and it was so good to be able to socialise in whatever way we could.
Anyway, I've been meaning to do a review of Walsworth Common for a long time as I think it's a brilliant local park.
It's a registered common with a free public car park, sports pitches, play equipment, conservation meadows and the river Purwell flows through the site providing pleasant riverside walks.
There's also a Nisa across the road should you need any extra drinks or snacks!
It's such a great all-rounder. Obviously with young kids, the main focus is always the park, where there's:
A great wide slide on a grassy hill with steps up the side, so good for little legs to climb up safely (and tire them out), plus what child doesn't love rolling down a grassy bank!
A low long climbing wall which is great for younger and older kids alike, with plenty of space for many to use.
Swings (two baby and one round net swing)
A fenced-off sandpit area with round-a-bout, tunnel and other play equipment. This is brilliant fun for the kids!
A zip wire aerial runway
Back near the car park is the skate park, where the kids loved running up and down the ramps, or using their bikes and scooters. Helmets at the ready!
There are also sports pitches and a basketball court, which is great for older kids too.
And don't forget the doggos! This isn't a picture from Walsworth Common, but we would regularly take our dog with us because apart from the sandpit, the park is completely open, so it's easy to manage having a dog with you too.
