This medieval hunting park is known more for its established trees such as the tulip trees and a magnificent London plane tree which dominates the garden. Swiss Gardens at Shuttleworth
One of our favourite local attractions is Shuttleworth, and their Swiss Gardens truly are breathtaking. The garden has plenty to see, including a grotto, fernery, ornate Indian kiosk, secret tunnels and, of course, the Swiss Cottage, which is really fun for kids to explore, while you take in the beautiful views. There are pathways throughout most of the gardens, so it's pram friendly, plus there's a lovely café and of course the Hangars and regular events.

Heartwood Forest, nr St Albans
My mum used to live overlooking Heartwood Forest, so we’ve been to see the bluebells here a number of times, but from late Jan, you'll find pretty carpets of snowdrops. There’s plenty of parking and well-managed paths- it’s a really lovely place for a walk. It’s part newly-planted forest, part ancient woodland, created by The Woodland Trust with the help of volunteers.
