On Thursday 12th December we were invited along to Ashridge Illuminated at Ashridge House - Hertfordshire's biggest light show.
We fell in love with Ashridge House when we visited in the summer for Upfest Art House in the summer and were delighted to be invited back for Ashridge Illuminated this festive time.
Now I will start off my review with a tip, please ensure you book parking when booking your tickets, this needs to be booked separately . Its very well organised and the car parking staff are great but you need to prebook!
Your experience starts by entering the food village which you are permitted to do up to 30 minutes before your allocated slot time here you can buy a selection of street food and drink , we enjoyed waffle wands and my husband sampled the lebanese offerings, all super yummy!
Its worthy of note that there are no toilets on the light trail until you reach the very end so either go upon arrival or just before you enter the light trail (particularly if you have younger tots!).
In order to maintain guest flow you are asked to enter the trail no later than 15 minutes after your start time so do try to stick to this if you can.
We've been to a few light trails over the years but I can genuinely say that we have never been to a light trail like Ashridge illuminated.
The way the light trail is orchestrated is nothing short of genius, seamlessly incorporating nature and the house in the displays in an almost dream like sequence.
The paths are buggy friendly so even the smallest of tots can delight in this feast for the eyes.
A particular highlight for us was the light show choreographed to music in front of the house with projections and synchronization of the display. Midway through theres another refreshment stop to grab hot drinks and an opportunity to toast marshmallows too (should you wish to).
You can wander at your own pace soaking in the sights and sounds of the experience and there are photo opportunities galore.
We spent probably a hour ( was so enthralled I forgot to time ourselves!) on the trail as we allowed ourselves to explore slowly really taking the time to enjoy the visual feast before our eyes.
After the light trail you can return to the village for more food and drink if you wish, we grabbed some hot chocolates before heading home.
Prices start from £15.40 (peak child). Ashridge Illuminated is running until January 1st, you can book tickets here.
