Poetry Workshop: Young People 8+
St Albans Museum and Gallery
Sun 28th July 2024
11am - 1pm
This South Asian Heritage Month we are proud to be supporting one of our wonderful community partners - Suman Gujral - with her 'Third Space' project. Suman is a local artist, poet and printmaker. Part of her work is about bringing arts and creative opportunities to all, and through the project, which is funded by Arts Council England, she has been able to organise a series of free poetry workshops. This one is suitable for young people aged 8+ and their parent/carers who would like to give it a try.
Children must be accompanied - please book a separate ticket for each person (adult or child) attending.
This workshop will be delivered by Manjot Dhaliwal:
'This workshop will look at the poetry of Amrita Pritam and her ideas around freedom and taking up space. Through engaging with creative techniques we will first imaginatively engage with the questions, 'When do I feel free?' and 'Where do I feel at home?' We will then look at Amrita Pritam's poem, "My Address" and discuss poetic techniques and revisit the questions of 'When do I feel free?". Participants will then be encouraged to write their own poems based on their answers.'
The workshops are free but spaces are limited so do book early!
