Our popular Waterbus between Ware and Hertford cruises along the picturesque flood plains of the River Lee. The River Lee with an abundance of wildlife connects these two historic towns. On route you will also pass through two original working locks. Operating every Saturday* and Sunday* between Ware Town Quay (next to The Priory, behind the Library car park) and Hertfords Bircherley Green Shopping Centre (by Starbucks). Please note this is a SCHEDULED SERVICE and journey times are approximately 75-90 minutes EACH WAY. We operate between Easter Weekend - September. We also run on Thursdays, Fridays and Bank Holiday Monday during August - NO BOOKINGS REQUIRED - TICKETS AVAILABLE ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS WHEN BOARDING.

Relax, cruise away from the pressures of work and phone for a few hours, on board one of our Day Boats. Experience life at the leisurely pace of four miles per hour. These boats must be booked in advance. We also offer hourly hire Electric Boats, Rowing Boats and Pedalo's from Easter to the end of the October. These small boats CAN NOT BE PREBOOKED. Please call 01992 462085 to check availability. Prices are valid until the end of December 2018. Please Note: All children under the 16 years of age must wear a bouyancy aid which we will supply and fit free of charge for the duration of hire. The Lee Valley Boat Centre is a small friendly business with the intention of giving everyone the chance of experiencing the River Lee. From passenger boat hire for larger groups to small rowing boats for up to 4 persons we aim to provide a means to travel along the River Lee at an affordable cost. The boats are available from the boat centre in Broxbourne with the exception of the passenger boats, which are boarded at the mooring slightly further upstream. In the interests of safety all children under the age of 16 years will have to wear a buoyancy aid which we supply and fit free of charge prior to boarding one of our boats (exception being the passenger boats which have their own safety management system on board). Dogs / pets are permitted on our day boats but unfortunately not on any of our small boats (electric, rowing or pedalos) or passenger boats where food is being served. The boring part - Please read carefully our Terms & Conditions (Day Boats, Small Boats) of hire for whichever boat you are interested in hiring as they include information to keep everyone safe whilst on the river. River Lee Country Park, between Cheshunt and Waltham Abbey, is home to a trail of different sculptures that offer an exciting type of walk through the park. With 16 sculptures to find, each one is a different style and material but they're fantastic and the kids will love trying to find them all. There's one that uses different woods of size and density to create a xylophone that can be jumped on, another that looks like a giant chair and one that shows two beetles on a large log.

Parndon Wood Nature Reserve, run by ECCO, is an area of ancient woodland home to a huge range of birds, small mammals, deer, flora and fungi. Opening hours Mondays: CLOSED Tuesday: CLOSED Wednesday: 11am-4pm Thursday: 2pm-9pm Friday: 11am-4pm Saturday: 11am-6pm Sunday: 11am-4pm Recorded as a woodland for over 900 years, Parndon Wood is composed of a canopy of oak with coppiced hornbeam growing beneath. The reserve is a Special Site for Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its variety of flora and has received a Green Flag Award, which recognises the best parks in the country, for the last ten years. Visitors can follow the 1.5km trail, or simply explore the wood's many tracks and paths. There are three observation hides, where you can wait quietly for a glimpse of a green woodpecker or Muntjac deer. In the accessible Conservation Centre, learn about the local wildlife from the classroom full of woodland specimens, taxidermy and information posters. Children can hire bug hunting kits, have fun in the den building area, hire binoculars and complete seasonal spotter sheets. During school holidays, there are plenty of activity sessions for young people. Parndon Wood has informal visits by schools, which offer demonstrations of woodland crafts, painting and woodcarving, supporting national curriculum studies. Please note that dogs are welcome only in the café courtyard and must be kept on a lead at all times. Dogs are not allowed onto the woodland trail.
