Children's Craft Café - Get your Autumn crafting in at Southern Maltings.

Younger children can choose from different stations set up with a selection of craft activities. This week the theme is Autumn and Halloween. From coloured leaves to spooky spiders, pumpkins to cheeky ghosts we have you covered for some Autumn Crafting at Southern Maltings.

We will also have playdough and small world play.

Snacks and drinks for parents and children will be available to purchase from our Café.

Harry Potter themed cupcake decorating workshop - Join Penny from Penny's Cupcakes for a magical afternoon workshop learning new skills in how to manipulate fondant to decorate a selection of four different Harry Potter inspired cupcakes.

During the workshop the children will be taught how to colour fondant and mould their own cupcake decorations including: 9 3/4 , Hedwig, the Sorting Hat and the Gryffindor Scarf!

They will then learn how to colour and pipe four delicious vanilla cupcakes, which they will decorate with their toppers and box, ready to bring home for a seasonal treat. Day of the Dead Masks Workshop.

In this workshop children 8+ years will be able to decorate a Day of the Dead Mask with Fine liners, Pens and Jewels and tissue paper to create their own unique Mask which they can wear for Halloween or the Traditional Day of the Dead on 1st November.

Day of the Dead is an important festival held each year in South American countries, but especially in Mexico.

The festival takes place on 1 and 2 November, (though some celebrations also take place on 31 October or 6 November) and is held to celebrate the cycle of life and death.

During the colourful festival big parades are held and people often paint their faces to look like skulls.

At Southern Maltings we understand that little ones will not always sit still during a film screening, so this half term we are offering a no-frills relaxed cinema screening of Disney's Encanto. This screening will be in our Main Studio, accessed via our Café entrance. The café will be open to purchase pre film snacks and drinks. Chairs will be available, but why not bring along a picnic blanket and cushions and settle down to watch this family favourite. Pushchairs can be left in the Heritage room at the foot of the stairs, and a lift is available for anyone with mobility issues.

Decoupage Pumpkins Workshop. What colour will your pumpkin be? Will it be traditional orange with textures, or colourful spots and stripes?

In this workshop children 8+ years will be able to decoupage a set of three pumpkins using coloured and seasonal tissue paper, decoupage papers and other materials to create their own unique Halloween Pumpkin decorations, to display in your home for Halloween, year after year!

Manga Portraits Art Workshop - come and learn all about Manga Art and how it is created, and then work on your own drawings using all the exercises and inspirations provided by our passionate tutor!

We have a new tutor who we are really excited about sharing with you. Heba Rena Yassin has a love of Japanese Art, Anime and Manga Art and cannot wait to share her passion with your teens to help them create their own Japanese and Manga inspired artwork.

She will start the session by giving a PowerPoint presentation introducing Manga, talk about her inspirations and show examples of her work. Paper Lanterns Workshop. To celebrate the winter, the nights drawing in and the Hindu Festival of Diwali we are hosting a Paper Light Lantern Decorating Workshop!

In this workshop children 8+ years will decorate their own paper lantern to their own unique design. They will also have access to our three Sizzix machines that will help you create amazing cut outs. You can then decorate your lanterns using your cutouts using colouredtissue paper, decoupage papers and other materials to create your own unique paper lanterns to hang up in your home or garden. Each Lantern will contain a small battery operated light.
