Dunstable Icknield lower school
Welcome from Mrs Stirling our Head Teacher
Hello and thank you for your interest in Dunstable Icknield Lower School.
I would like to introduce you to our school and to tell you why I am sure that we can provide the ideal environment for your child to learn and develop.
Firstly, our staff are all committed to continuously improving what we teach and how we teach it, so that we create the best possible learning experience for every single child.
However, we believe that school life is about more than academic progress; it is also about helping children gain experiences and learn the values and behaviours that help them take part in, and contribute to the wider community.
That is why we are proud to hold the Artsmark Gold Award as well as a Music Mark Award too. Our school ethos and curriculum is underpinned by values-based education, supporting the wider well-being of all in our school community.
Values-based education is an approach to teaching that helps develop values such as patience, tolerance and respect to create a strong learning environment that enhances academic attainment, while developing social and relationship skills. This approach pairs perfectly with the five British Values of Democracy, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, Rule of Law and Tolerance.
At Dunstable Icknield we believe that our success comes from building close partnerships between all those involved in the school - not just the teachers and children, but also the parents, carers, families and governors.
The involvement of parents and carers greatly enhances the life of our school. We have parents and carers who are willing to give their time to support in the classroom or on days out, others who help out at school events, and of course those who have joined FOILS (Friends of Icknield Lower School) which is our parent teacher association or the Board of Governors. Every bit of support helps improve the learning experiences for every child.
