Mountfitchet Castle is a unique open-air museum experience where the visitor can travel back in time over 900 years and truly witness life in a medieval Motte and Bailey castle. Explore the Castle and roam through the Norman village hidden behind the castle walls. Meet and hand feed the tame Fallow deer and other rescued animals that roam freely throughout the 10 acre site.

Walk in the steps of real Tudors. Explore the birthplace of hte royal dynasty. Open your eyes to the Elizabethan age. To make the most of your visit, why not pick up one of our House Detective Bags? They are packed with tasks and quizzes to complete as you move through the museum. In the Charity Café there is a range of toys, games and colouring-in for younger visitors. The Royston Museum Trail guides the visitor through the history of Royston and the surrounding area with a range of archaeological finds dating from the Ice Age through to the Romans and the Anglo-Saxons. Other items of particular interest are a Beatles' programme, the first home computer (Sinclair ZX), a Rubik's Cube, and a time capsule assembled by the Royston Brownies in 1997 to be opened in 2027!

Discover the mystery beneath the streets of Royston. No records of its age or purpose exist, but it is manmade and contains an extensive range of wall carvings. The purpose of Cave remains a mystery and a visit to make up your own mind is a must! Entry is by guided tour only.
