This annual charity event, which raises money for Beech Hyde Primary School has become a favourite among runners for over 20 years and sees competitors from out of the area coming to the village, encouraged by reports of a fantastic run with a local feel that takes in beautiful countryside.
The 10km is a challenging mat-to-mat timed off-road course, and with its outstanding scenery and friendly village setting, this is a popular run with all levels of runners. The event starts at 11:00am.

All pond dipping equipment is provided for £3 per kit, and your pond dipping session will last approximately 25 minutes. Please do not bring your own nets as you won't be able to use them in our pond. This is a self-led activity.

He's noticed a lot of new friends appearing RSPB Rye Meads who have travelled from far and wide, and they told him about something called migration. He has done a little bit of reading into it and needs some intrepid scientists to help him complete his research. Head out on to the RSPB Rye Meads reserve where he has left some of his findings, can you help answer some of his questions? Once you're done head back to the Visitor Centre to hand in your findings and complete Simon the Science Sparrow's colouring craft as a thank you for helping him with his research.

Come and visit the largest preserved Midland Railway signal box in the UK and one of the few preserved boxes that's open to the public and next to a busy main line railway.
Signalling demonstrations are run on the operating floor upstairs whenever asked for. Railway videos and a slideshow of the restoration are shown downstairs, with many signalling items on display, including single line 'tablet token' machines, and other railway-related exhibits.
In the garden visitors can operate working signals and a point; on display are old signs, lit oil lamps, a telegraph 'pole route' and a garden railway.

Come and visit the largest preserved Midland Railway signal box in the UK and one of the few preserved boxes that's open to the public and next to a busy main line railway.
Signalling demonstrations are run on the operating floor upstairs whenever asked for. Railway videos and a slideshow of the restoration are shown downstairs, with many signalling items on display, including single line 'tablet token' machines, and other railway-related exhibits.
In the garden visitors can operate working signals and a point; on display are old signs, lit oil lamps, a telegraph 'pole route' and a garden railway.

The Draco Standard was a type of flag used by the Roman Cavalry (soldiers on horseback) It consisted of a dragon's head mounted on a post with colourful fabric trailing behind. The colours could be picked out in the dust and smoke of battle and soldiers could find the direction and location of their leaders. U

Under the guidance of our falconers you will have the opportunity to meet and handle different species of owls including the Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, European Eagle Owl, Scops Owl and more. Ask the falconers any questions you may have and take the opportunity to take some photos.

All pond dipping equipment is provided for £3 per kit, and your pond dipping session will last approximately 25 minutes. Please do not bring your own nets as you won't be able to use them in our pond. This is a self-led activity.

He's noticed a lot of new friends appearing RSPB Rye Meads who have travelled from far and wide, and they told him about something called migration. He has done a little bit of reading into it and needs some intrepid scientists to help him complete his research. Head out on to the RSPB Rye Meads reserve where he has left some of his findings, can you help answer some of his questions? Once you're done head back to the Visitor Centre to hand in your findings and complete Simon the Science Sparrow's colouring craft as a thank you for helping him with his research.

The turrets and towers of Knebworth House will provide a spectacular backdrop to the costumed Knights on majestic warhorses galloping at full tilt across the arena in a fantastic display of horsemanship. The crowds are encouraged to cheer and jeer the Knights as they demonstrate their skill.
There are two scheduled jousting displays at 12pm and 2.30pm (timings dependent on weather).

The Festival is held on the playing fields of Sir John Lawes School - from where it derives its name. The festival is a volunteer-run fund-raising event, organised by the parents' organisations of Sir John Lawes School and Manland Primary School in Harpenden.
Back by (very) popular demand! In 2018 we introduced the Karaoke phenomenon Massaoke who, now much in demand, have agreed to come back and headline the show for us again this year. A spectacular array of over 1,000 classic cars, scooters, and motorbikes pack Harpenden Common for the annual Classics on the Common, one of the UK's largest one-day classic car events! Visitors can expect to enjoy a wide variety of cars at the event, with everything from 1913 model T Ford and a 1916 Stanley Steamer, to Rolls Royces and Maseratis making appearances in past years. The event is free to attend, though donations are encouraged.
The classic vehicles arrive in two main tranches from 11.30 a.m. and from 2.00 p.m. Most vehicles are in position from 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. when the first vehicles may leave.

Learn basic hedgehog facts - where they live, what they eat, the problems facing hedgehogs and why they're in decline. Receive practical advice about how to help hedgehogs in your garden. Find out about basic hedgehog care and handling.
Meet a rescue hog (if available) and see where they are being nursed back to health before being released.

It has had the backing of the village and its residents ever since, with amazing Scarecrows being created each year for the public to view.
Each year, residents from the village of Flamstead create fabulous scarecrows and display them in their front gardens or around the village. There is a competition to see who can make the best scarecrow. Those attending the festival purchase voting forms and vote for their favourite scarecrows.

Starting at The Admiral Benbow Inn, Jim finds a treasure map locked in an old Pirates chest. After an encounter with infamous pirate Long John Silver who wants the map for himself - Jim and his friends join the band of Pirates and embark across the seas to find Treasure Island. Once they find the Island, it's a race against time as both Jim and Long John Silver eagerly search for the Treasure.

The show will feature more than 300 classic vehicles, including vintage cars, vans, motorbikes and tractors. With live music all afternoon on the stage , great street food , a licensed bar, children's funfair rides and a miniature railway, there will be fun for all the family. The show is open to the public from Noon , and we welcome cash and cardless donations at the gate ( suggested donation £3 per adult, children free) all donations go to support charities.

As the light fades over the meadows join us to discover the bats found at Home Farm Glamping. Using detectors we'll be able to hear them echo-locating over the trees along the hedgerows and over the lakes seeking out moths and insects for their supper.
Suitable for adults and children ages 7 and over. Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
No refund on cancellations made within 7 days of the event.
Proceeds from this event will go towards supporting the work of Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.
