A Day of Fun and Adventure at Mead Open Farm

Published:

To kick off the Summer we were invited to Mead Open Farm and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try out their Shaggy’s Summer Spectacular event!

Nestled in the heart of the Bedfordshire countryside, Mead Open Farm is a treasure trove of fun and adventure for families. With activities ranging from adrenaline-pumping high ropes to the adorable daily bunny hop, there's something to delight every member of the family.

Typical activities you can expect on every visit and included in the price of your ticket:

  • Jumping Pillows
  • Indoor soft play
  • Sky Trail-High Ropes
  • Climbing Wall
  • Go Karts
  • Outdoor Log Play
  • JCB Digger Village
  • Sand and Water Play
  • Crazy Golf
  • Tractor and Trailer Rides
  • Daily Bunny Hop
  • Daily Pony Grooming

We arrived at around midday and went straight into the Outdoor Log Play area which greets you on arrival, constructed from sturdy logs and natural materials, it’s perfect for imaginative play. From there, we went straight to the first barn which houses the goats and sheep you can feed and watch the lambs bottle feeding at certain times of the day (full timetable of events can be found on their website).

Outside there is a huge outdoor play area with Climbing Wall, Sky Trail ropes, Go Karts, JCB Digger Village and so much more; my little girls is obsessed with the Sand and Water Play area and the Jumping Pillows so there was a lot of bribery involved to try and drag her away for some lunch!

After our picnic, when it was time for a break from the sun, we headed to the indoor soft play area. This huge multi-level playground is a paradise for children, featuring multiple slides, ball pits, and climbing frames. It’s a great place for the kids to burn off energy while we took it in turns to relax with a coffee from the Playbarn Pantry. It also has loads of baby changing tables in the toilets.

There’s another couple of barns where you can visit and pet the farmyard animals; Jo’s Barn is home to the ponies, bunnies, more goats and the gorgeous Hereford cows who were feeding their sweet calves when we got there.

There's a nice range of places to eat here as well, there's the main Grainstore Kitchen which has a great selection of hot and cold food and drinks for both adults and kids, the Playbarn Pantry for snacks and coffees and then the Donut Hut for on the go ice lollies, donuts and drinks. Plus plenty of places indoors and outdoors to settle down and have a picnic with the family - even though it was busy we managed to find a nice spot in the shade.

There were so many special activities going on throughout the day, included as part of the Shaggy’s Summer Spectacular event: Water Zorbing, Silent Disco, Meeting the Mead Open Farm mascot Shaggy and an End of day Foam Party.

Unfortunately, our little girl is only 2 so was too little to take part in the zorbing but loved seeing the Mascot from afar.

You can check out our visit and how much fun we had in this Reel I shared. This was our second visit to Mead Open Farm, and it won’t be the last either – we really recommend it for a full day of fun for all ages!

The Shaggy’s Summer Spectacular event will run throughout the Summer, it started 20th July and runs until Sunday 1st September. All activities are included on the in the price of your ticket, you can save 20% when you book in advance online and under 18 months go free.
