A varied range of music is used within classes allowing students to develop their imagination and creativity which is a vital stage within child development.
Syllabus Classes (5 Years +)
From the age of five years students are able to undertake syllabus technique classes. Our syllabus classes are offered in Ballet, Tap, Modern Theatre and Jazz. Students have the opportunity to work through the grades starting at primary level working all the way up to the major syllabus. For these techniques we follow the I.S.T.D Syllabus where students have the opportunity to undertake exams throughout the year.
Below is a brief description of the Technique classes on offer:-
Classical Ballet
Ballet is a type of performance dance that originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. It has been globally influential and has defined the foundational techniques used in many other dance genres. Ballet requires years of training to learn and master, and much practice to retain proficiency. It has been taught in ballet schools around the world, which have historically used their own cultures to evolve the art. - (ISTD N.D)
Tap
Tap has evolved as an American dance form, popularised throughout the world, with debate about its origins coming from African dance, Irish dance and/or clog dancing. The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out different rhythms, with dancers wearing tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on stage in musicals.-(ISTD N.D)
Modern Theatre
Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style. - (ISTD N.D)
Jazz
Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity on television shows, movies, music videos and commercials. People enjoy watching jazz dancers, as the dancing is fun and energetic.
Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns.- (T.Bedinghaus,N.D)
