Berkhamsted Cricket Club
Age: 5 - Adult
Berkhamsted Cricket Club has a 125 year history that is thriving on all fronts.
Our Junior section is one of the biggest in the UK with over 400 boys and girls playing in over 20 teams plus a popular All Stars Programmes. In 2023 we expect to exceed 150 girls playing at the club and we are aiming to become a centre of excellence for Women and Girls Cricket over the next 3-5 years by appointing a dedicated female coach.
We are a Focus Club, with Clubmark status. We play on a two-square field set in one of the most attractive settings in the Home Counties with a traditional pavilion with a large decking area from which to watch the game. Our practice facilities include four top-class ECB-standard non-turf nets and two bowling machines. Both pitches are graced with a state-of-the-art electronic scoreboards. Our clubhouse has undergone an extensive refurbishment and is a delightful spot in which to relax and watch sport, share a drink with friends and take in the best setting for cricket in the home counties.
Junior Cricket at Berkhamsted CC is very popular with both boys and girls. Please note that we are operating a waiting list for new membership of the junior section. To join the waiting list or to check availability of spaces, please email Mark Lewarne at [email protected]
Summer Coaching Arrangements for 2023
Our summer programme normally starts in late April / early May and runs through to the end of August. The winter programme is held indoors at Ashlyns and Berkhamsted School. Summer programme is outdoors at Berkhamsted Cricket Club. Most sessions up to school year 6 take place on weekends with year 7 onwards weekday evenings.
Membership must be paid in full prior to the start of the season.
Children in school years 1 & 2 can enrol in our All Stars Group which runs on Saturday mornings for 10 weeks between May and July. All Stars booking normally opens in February.
Both boys and girls approaching their 16th birthday are encouraged to move into coaching roles to support the younger age groups. The club pays for individuals to take coaching courses to gain qualifications.
Girls Cricket
Our Girls section started in 2010 and had been building steadily ever since. There are now over 100 girls playing at the club and in 2022 we ran 7 teams at U11, U13 and U15 age groups. Our Girls section are offered the same programme as the Boys with Summer and Winter training as well as development pathways to represent Herts and Bucks at a County level. Girls have a choice of softball and hardball cricket up to U11 and then from U12 onwards its hardball cricket. It is important for us that Girls see a clear pathway and development at the club and since 2015 we have offered routes into not only County age group teams but our Women's team which regularly features a number of U16 girls. Beyond County level girls with exceptional ability can move into regional academies and beyond that the professional game.
